Ali Khan Shirvanshir is the son of a wealthy Azerbaijani family. He is a handsome and intelligent young man, who is educated in Europe. Nino Kipiani is the daughter of a Georgian prince. She is a beautiful and independent young woman, who is also educated in Europe.

Ali and Nino meet in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. They are immediately drawn to each other, but their love is forbidden by their families and their society. Despite the obstacles, they are determined to be together.

Ali and Nino's love is tested by the outbreak of World War I. Ali is drafted into the Azerbaijani army, while Nino flees to Georgia. They are separated for several years, but they never stop loving each other.

After the war, Ali and Nino are reunited in Baku. They are married, and they have a child. However, their happiness is short-lived. Azerbaijan is invaded by the Soviet Union, and Ali is killed in the fighting.

Nino is devastated by Ali's death. She leaves Baku and goes to live in France. She never marries again, and she spends the rest of her life mourning Ali.

The story of Ali and Nino is a tragic one, but it is also a beautiful one. It is a story about the power of love, and the resilience of the human spirit.
